normal_DSC_0258.JPG.jpgThe Lady Spartans took on a powerful team from West on Tuesday, and were able to pull out their second win of the season, 44-39.
The girls were looking forward to this game after their tough defeat against Kennedy last week. You could feel the intensity in the air as the Spartans stepped out onto the court. The Cowboys have gotten the better of TJ over the past few years, taking wins for the past three seasons. However,as the game started, it looked as if the Spartans were ready to break away from this old tradition.
The defense for the Spartans looked like they were ready for anything, as they started the game out with consecutive steals and back-to-back lay ups. TJ’s defense showed that they had come to play and weren’t going away without a fight. The team continued to hold strong throughout the entire game by allowing only 39 points, the least of the entire season. However, the defense is only as good as the offense, and the Spartans were able to keep their offense alive all game.
The girls started the game going on a 12-4 run, which is also one of their better streaks of the season. The offense never let down, as the Spartans continued to strive ahead to score. While the Cowboys had many streaks of their own, TJ was always able to stay ahead. The Spartans actually never trailed in this game, which made the win seem inevitable. The Cowboys made a last second attempt to comeback in the game as they scored 8 points in the last 5 minutes. This brought the Spartan lead to 2 points, but that was as close as they would get, as the Spartans put up two baskets of their own in the last minute to put the game away.
The Spartans look to continue this outburst of both offensive and defensive success as they head to Lincoln next Tuesday at 7.
