The TJ hoop squad lost a heartbreaker to D’Evelyn but rebounded with an away win at Cherokee Trail.

On Friday, December 14th, the Spartans took on D’Evelyn High School in a clash of top 4A teams. Both teams came in undefeated and, after a hard fought battle, the Spartans were defeated, losing 82-81, with a last second shot by D’Evelyn star Luke Stratman.
The leading scorer for the Spartans was Senior Eric Andres with 24 points to go along with five rebounds. “It was a back and forth battle. I’m really proud of our team for contending the entire game,” stated Head Coach Grant Laman. After the tough loss, the boys were destined to rebound with a good game against a top 5A team.
On Tuesday, December 18th, the Spartans took on Cherokee Trail and came away with a big win in overtime, with a score of 87-81. The leading scorer for the Spartans was Junior Treyvon Andres, who put up 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds. According to Laman, “The team was dejected and down at one point, but no one wanted to lose a second heart-breaker, which fueled our fire.” With the win, the Spartans improved to a record of 5-1 on the season and are ranked 6th in 4A basketball, by the Denver Post.
The TJ Hoop Squad looks to improve on their record as they head into the break with the Cherry Creek Holiday Tournament. The first game for the Spartans will be against Montbello High School on Thursday Dcember 20th, at 3:00 p.m. at Cherry Creek High School. The boys will also take on Legend High School Friday, at 6:00 p.m., and the final games will be played on Saturday against Pine Creek at 1:30 p.m.. Be sure to go out and support your fellow Spartans.
