APPLYING TO COLLEGE THE TJ HIGH WAY

APPLICATION

Application forms and application deadlines vary. All Colorado public colleges will accept the Colorado Common Application although they all print view books with tear-out applications. Independent colleges have their own forms. It is best to write to the college and obtain their application. The counseling center at TJ has application to most of the institutions in Colorado and always has a supply of Colorado Common Applications. Many colleges have applications on-line.

DEADLINES

Deadlines for submitting applications also vary. Make a list of the deadlines you must work with. It is a good idea to have your list finalized and applications ready to go before Thanksgiving. College admission counselors suggest that September is NOT too early due to an increase in the number of applications every year.

THE PROCEDURE

Your counselor will need help from you in order to present the best package possible to the colleges to which you are applying.

Two weeks before THE FIRST DEADLINE, your counselor must have the following:

  1. All Secondary School Report Forms (those parts of the application which the counselor is responsible for filling out).
  2. Stamped, addressed envelops to the college you are applying to. That means stamped, addressed envelopes for each school with sufficient postage affixed to get your applications to the school of your choice.** You will also need one stamped envelope for final grades.**
  3. Official transcripts must be included with each application. You will receive two official transcripts free of charge. Each additional transcript will cost $3.00. You will receive a bill for the additional transcripts that must be paid to the school treasurer. Once the counselor receives your materials he/she will complete all forms. Your application will be given to the Records Clerk for the transcript. Applications will then be mailed. Official transcripts must be mailed by the school and will not be given to students.
The counseling center will not accept responsibility for any application received by the counselor outside of the above time line. Giving the counselor less than two weeks to put your complete package together is not fair to you or to the counselor. Considering the counselor's other responsibilities, they may not have time to process your applications by the deadline dates.

THE TWO-WEEK DEADLINE ALSO APPLIES TO THOSE STUDENTS APPLYING EARLY DECISION OR EARLY ACTION
