The class of 2012 prepares for a senior year that’s sure to be amazing.
Whether you are a senior or freshman, pulling together and putting on a memorable senior prom is important to all high school students, and that is why parents, sponsors, and students of the class of 2012 are jumping on it early and getting a head start to raising money for prom.
2012 fundraising ideas have already been brainstormed, thanks to parent volunteers. A parent-student meeting was held on Wednesday, September 15th, in which a good handful of parents and students showed up to talk about fundraising for the class of 2012.
Many great ideas came up, and now the next step is simply taking some action. Talk about live music concerts, movie nights, car washes and garage sales all surfaced during the meeting, creating many opportunities for the juniors to raise money. “When kids think about prom, they don’t really stop and think about the planning and time that goes into it; they think it just happens. I think it is important for everyone to realize how much work goes into prom, and I’m hoping everyone in our class really gets involved in the fundraising we’re going to need for our senior year,” said TJ Junior Cody Anderson.
There is a lot to get done when it comes to raising money for prom, which is why Thomas Jefferson Alumni and Parent Kendra Black has taken on the huge responsibility as the brains behind the operation, planning and organizing everything that will be going into the current juniors’ prom. Teachers Stacey Fornstrom and Mark Smith have taken on the challenging duty as class sponsors for the class of 2012. “Our main goal is to get the juniors to do their own planning, and organize their own fundraisers. Even small things that would just take a few hours. It doesn’t have to be a huge production, just something that could raise some money,” said Fornstrom. There are a lot of great ideas, now the juniors just need to take those ideas and make fundraisers out of them.
“One of the fundraisers that we’re going to be doing is a ‘phone raiser,’ where we’ll collect old cell phones and send them to a recycling company. It’s a super easy way to raise money, so I think it will be a good start!” said Junior Mateo Rocha. Parents and students plan on having several smaller fundraisers for the year, such as the phone raiser; however, they have bigger things on their minds as well. On October 22nd, the junior class will begin selling Duffy Rolls around the school, promoting their class.
The Junior Class of 2012 has a lot of planning to do before senior year hits; however, with these dedicated parents, students and alumni, the end result is sure to be a success. There will be a class meeting on October 20th at Excel time, so feel free to stop by with fundraising ideas. If you have any questions regarding fundraising, or are interested in helping the junior class out, feel free to contact Kendra Black or Class Sponsors Stacey Fornstrom and Mark Smith.
