Boys’ soccer ties with George Washington 2-2, beats South 1-0, and defeats North 2-1.

The future for the Spartan Soccer Boys, who are now ranked number two in 4A Denver Standings, is starting to look bright.
On Tuesday, October 4th, the Boys’ soccer team went head to head with the Patriots of George Washington. The mighty Spartans played their best and almost came out with a “W,” but tied 2-2 instead. “We definitely outplayed them, but we did’t finish well,” Head Coach Jon Poole says. Junior Damon Daniels and Freshman Edward Yepes scored the two points for the Spartans.
Then, on Friday, October 7th, the boys set up for one of the biggest games of their season. They played a home game against South High School and defeated the Rebels with a final score of 1-0. Yet again, Yepes shot the ball into the back of the net, scoring the single goal. “The South game was a good match for both teams,” Poole says. Because of this victory, the Spartans knocked the Rebels out of playoffs.
The boys were back at it again on Monday, October 10th. The Spartans played against North High School, again at home, ending with another win, 2-1. Both Yepes and Junior Mohamed Hussein scored the goals for the Spartans. “During the North game we played pretty well. We were winning 2-0 until the last 10 minutes or so when they were able to score,” said Poole.
The soccer team only has one more game to go, and they play Kent High School on October 20, 2011. Be sure to cheer them on as their season starts coming to a close.
