TJ opens the new school year with a welcome back celebration.
On August 27, 2010, TJ will be bringing back its widely missed tradition, the Jamaican Jam. Last year TJ was unable to pull through with the event last year, but will now be re-introducing it as a celebration to kickoff the new school year. The jam is an event held in our very own Spartan gym, where there will be a volleyball tournament held, as well as music played throughout the night to set the mood and to provide the dancers with the tunes they need.
This year the Jamaican Jam will be new and improved with a Hawaiian twist. Hawaiian leis will be placed upon the necks of the TJ participants at the entrance. Smoothies and snow cones will be sold to echo the theme, and complimentary treats will be provided for all. “It’s great to see the Jam finally come together; it will be a great way to welcome everyone to TJ in a fun new way,” said Senior Nicole Blake, who is the Student Body President at TJ. The Student Council has worked hard to recreate the event, and to bring it back with a new exciting spin.
“While Jamaican Jam is a great time to show off your dance moves, the main attraction is the highly competitive volleyball tournament,” said TJ Social Studies Teacher Jon Poole, who will be organizing the tournament. The volleyball tournament requires a $25 fee from the teams, each consisting of 6-8 people. All money must be turned in to Poole in room 231 by Thursday August 26. The winning team will earn a cash prize!
The Jam will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Individual tickets are priced at $5, and a senior/freshman pair can buy tickets for a shared price of $6.00 ($3.00 each). Seniors, adopt your freshmen now so you can receive your discounts and share some Spartan pride with a freshman. Tickets will be sold before and after school as well as during passing periods and lunch in the treasurers’ office near the main office. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Only 250 tickets will be sold, so first come first served!
Don’t forget to wear your Hawaiian shirts, TJ!
