TJ Student Council members help to prepare a faculty breakfast to show appreciation for teachers.
Every year the TJ administration kicks off the school year by providing the returning Spartan Faculty with a welcome back breakfast to show its appreciation for them; this year, TJ Seniors threw an unexpected surprise into the mix.
“I was pleasantly surprised to see Student Council members making the teachers pancakes for breakfast. I felt like we were already off to a great start, not to mention the pancakes were delicious!” said Grant Laman, a Computer Magnet Teacher at TJ. On August 17th the TJ faculty members were greeted by the wholesome aroma of homemade pancakes.
Senior Student Council members Nicole Blake, Nicole Brown, Morgan Bruzas, Casey Edelman, Gaby Landeros, and Anna Becker all participated in preparing the pancake breakfast. The girls were assigned jobs such as cutting fresh fruit, mixing batter, and flipping pancakes. “The faculty breakfast was probably one of the best reasons for waking up at six in the morning. Making pancakes was awesome and we even made Mr. Laman a TJ pancake!” said Brown. Each teacher was given three pancakes and the choice of blueberry, strawberry, walnuts, and chocolate chip toppers. Muffins and other small pastries complimented the freshly brewed coffee and variety of juices.
As the teachers entered the community room, they formed a line and were given a warm plateful. “It was a very nice start to the school year. I liked the fact that it was the students helping, it was a sign of the entire school as a community working together,” said TJ Librarian Sudi Stodola. There seemed to be a general belief that it is these small gestures that make the TJ community come together and create a sense of unity.
“The turnout was phenomenal, and the teachers really appreciated everything. I am very impressed by the seniors’ ability to reach out to all constituents at TJ. There has been a culture change as a result of their efforts. They have had a large impact on TJ and are setting the standards,” said Assistant Principal Scott Lessard.
