On Friday, September 3rd, the Varsity boys fought a tough game against Bruce Randolph High School, struggling for a goal throughout the game and coming out with a final score of 0-0.

The Spartans battled hard throughout the game; however, the lack of finishing among the offense resulted in two scoreless halves. “One thing we definitely need to work on is our communication,” said Junior Midfielder Gabriel Ferreria da Silva. “The score didn’t turn out the way we wanted because we failed to let each other know what was going on. But I think we out possessed them and dominated most of the game, our finishing just killed us,” said da Silva.

The game held many opportunities for the boys, as the ball was almost consistently kept out of Spartan territory and pushed down to the opposing side of the field. There were multiple times in which the boys broke through the Bruce Randolph defensive line, but unfortunately no shots were turned into goals, and the game remained a tie. “I was a little frustrated because we had our opportunities that we didn’t capitalize on, but there were a lot of positives to take from the game too,” said Coach Jon Poole. The game ended up to be a learning experience for both the coach and players.

Although the Spartans couldn’t come up with a win, the season is only just beginning. Make sure to support the team again on Wednesday, September 15th, as they take on Overland High School here at TJ at 4:00 p.m.
