Boys’ Soccer ties Overland 1-1 with a goal in the second half

On Wednesday, September 15th the boys’ varsity soccer squad headed out to the Spartan turf to take on Overland High School, fighting hard and ending with a tie of 1-1.
The game started out slow, with the entire first half remaining scoreless. Spartan defense held strong throughout those first 40 minutes, denying the Overland offense their attempts to score. “They [Overland] were individually skilled, but easily broken down when we pulled together as a team and started working with each other,” said Senior Captain Nick Becker. The boys began to gel and really challenge the other team. Still, their finishing needed work, as there were a small amount of shots on goal.
As the second half kicked off, a disappointing goal was lost to Overland. The Spartan boys, however, wasted no time and quickly got back on their feet. The lone goal scored by Senior Will Lopez tied the game up 1-1. “Our main weakness was just getting some shots off. We had all sorts of opportunities and could easily beat their defense, but we just could not shoot. That’s one thing that is definitely killing us as a team,” said Junior Forward Mitch Moore. The game ended with the score remaining at 1-1, despite the effort made by the guys during the second half.
The Spartans hope to break their tying streak this Wednesday, September 22nd right here at TJ against the Montebello Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Be sure to come support the boys and cheer them on for the win!
