Homecoming will be jam-packed with entertainment.
The 2010/2011 homecoming game night will be filled with special guests, games, food, and the biggest event: the much anticipated car parade!
The annual homecoming game will be held at All City Friday night at 7:00 p.m., against rival South High School. But there is no need to wait until 7:00 p.m. because the fun begins right after school with the first ever car parade.
TJ is celebrating its 50th year anniversary Friday night and the football game will be facing a big rival, the South Rebels. Since it will be a special night, the trio of Student Council Sponsors Erin Thompson, Joanne Moreno, and Derek Steffes, along with Assistant Principal Lani Nobles and Student Council members, worked hard to organize the parade. “I’m really excited that this year’s Student Council has been working so hard. The excitement I’ve seen so far makes me believe it’s going to be fabulous,” said Student Council Sponsor Joanne Moreno.
The parade is a competition among each of the four classes and consists of each class decorating one car with TJ inspired embellishments, as well as adornments supporting the football team that it sure to motivate them and help the Spartans beat the rebels. “It’s a great opportunity to decorate your car and show your school spirit as well as class commitment. I’m ready to see how creative the students are,” said Nobles.
Class sponsors for each class will help the students choose a car and get it to All City safely, where students can quickly begin to work together with their class. The TJ alumni and parents will be the judges of the best adorned car. Any TJ student can participate; however every class has to work quickly and efficiently because the clock is ticking and everyone only has right after school until the time the game begins to complete the car. Each class must also provide its own materials. The winning class of the parade and of the most spirit during spirit week will be announced during half time, and that class will receive a cash prize that will be added toward its prom.
The goal for this year’s homecoming was one of assimilation and celebration. Student Council worked hard to make it an immense deal where every TJ member student, faculty, parents and alumni alike can attend and enjoy themselves. “Homecoming this year is completely different. We’re adding new fun activities, such as the parade, to integrate our school more,” said all School President and Senior Nicole Blake.
The parade along with all the other new activities planned will encourage students to come together and help show off the TJ pride and its strong core values after 50 years and counting of school excellence.
