The Thomas Jefferson library recently invested in a program produced by CenGaGe Gale Book Publishers, that enables students to access books from their cell phones, and provides a host for eChapters, textbooks, and textbook rentals.

Since the application, e-Books, became available in July, many students have used the program, and TJ’s Librarian, Sudi Stodola, is eager to purchase more books for the students to view. “The e-Books application is free and comes in two versions,” said Stodola, “There is the version that we have at TJ where you can download non-fiction books, and the version for the public that allows you to download books from libraries ten miles away.”

With this application, students are enabled to go through books, page by page, to look for information.  The genre chosen for this application is non-fiction, which can contribute to researching as a reliable resource.

“It’s really fantastic that I can look up books from anywhere I am; it’s really convenient,” said Kyler Jackson, a World Language teacher here at TJ who has used the application.

Now that this useful program has been created, one needs to know how to access it. “To download this application you just go to your iTunes store on your computer, click on applications, and it will be under Access My Library,” said Stodola,  “Here you will find an introductory video and a tutorial section to introduce this new product to users.”

Some students have trouble with library-based research because they are busy with jobs, sports, or simply can’t find a ride to the library. “I think this application will make research for students a lot easier because a lot of students have access to a cell phone instead of computers,“ said Stodola. “We also focus a lot on getting Thomas Jefferson students ‘college ready,’ and I think this application will do just that.”

For more information on this program, stop by the TJ library and ask Librarian Stodola, who says she is happy to help. Or visit www.cengagebrain.com/shop/index.html to look further into this application.
