Boys’ Soccer has trouble defeating long-time rivals East and Lincoln.

On Monday, September 27th, the Spartan soccer team headed to East High school to take on its biggest rival, the Angels. With one of the most nail-biting matches of the season, the Spartans played an amazing game, maintaining a tie for almost the whole match; however, unfortunately ending in a close loss of 2-1.
“They [TJ] played incredibly hard, and gave themselves every opportunity to win. As a coach, I could never be upset with a loss of that quality,” said Varsity Coach Jon Poole. The boys’ intensity began as soon as they stepped onto the field, and did not cease until the whistle blew for the end of the game.
The lone goal was scored by Senior Striker Corey Rowe, which gave the Spartans a great amount of confidence for the rest of the game. “East is a good, competitive team, but they are not the kings of soccer. We were able to break them down, and sustain a tie for the entire game. It was a sad loss, but we have gained respect,” said Senior Captain Nick Becker.
Respect indeed is what the Spartans have gained. With last year’s loss of 6-0 against East, the boys have certainly come a long way.
The team played yet another tough game against Lincoln on Wednesday the 29th, losing 7-1, with a goal scored by Senior Sean Gonzalez. “It was a disappointing game; nobody likes to lose by that much, but hopefully it will just give us motivation to do better,” said Senior Will Lopez.
The soccer boys face off again Monday, October 4th against the George Washington Patriots, right here at TJ at 4:00 pm. Make sure to come by and watch; it’s sure to be a great game.
