DECA adopts a new look for a fast-paced marketing world.
This year national business club, DECA, has experienced a slight change when its logo and motto were changed to represent the modern, fast-paced world of marketing.
“The new motto gives us a fresh start to the class. We are looking forward to this year and the competition ahead of us. The large amount of members this year allows us to grasp more knowledge and hope for a victory,” said TJ DECA President Mitchell Mankoff. DECA introduced a new diamond shape logo and TJ DECA introduced a new motto: “The standard by which others are measured.”
The logo represents the modern changes in the marketing world, also the expansion of marketing within the club. “The four sides of the logo all mean different things; they are: civic consciousness, leadership development, vocational understanding, and social intelligence,” said Business Teacher Matthew Nicolo.
These qualities play a role in the class and the way students should approach them. “These four qualities are important to DECA because this is what a student should learn in the class during its course and for use in their marketing future,” said Senior Hayden Johnson.
Colorado DECA is ranked 9th in the United States with a total of 6,830 members in the program as of May 2010. The goal for DECA this year is to reach its mark for 7,000 members. TJ has experienced the largest amount of members with a total of 107 this year, and is looking forward to continuing its expansion. The DECA staff this year consists of Mitchell Mankoff as the President, Vice President Dylan Jennings, Secretary Daniela Cardona, Treasurer Hayden Johnson, Chapter Representative Robert McMacken, Public Director Sarah Southard, the Travel Coordinator Christine Ann, Plans and Programs John Jones and the School Store Representative April Regas.
In the upcoming year DECA has many interesting plans. “Currently we are designing a PR (Public Relations) for the future parents of TJ. The PR is going to help the parents learn more about TJ and why it is a great school. It gives the statistics of test results and class programs offered at TJ,” said Kelly Sinopoli-Martinez, who has been in DECA for three years.
From October 11th-15th DECA is hosting a National DECA week at TJ, which is an annual fundraiser that DECA holds. The week is dedicated to the involvement of DECA with the TJ community and showing future DECA students what the class has to offer. “This is a great opportunity for the students to learn about DECA and see what it’s all about,” said Mankoff. “We are all excited for this year’s regionals and moving on to state!”
“DECA is an association for marketing students. We learn about marketing essentials and strategies in which a business can excel, along with how to present yourself professionally in regards to public speaking, relations and appearance,” said Junior DECA member Mateo Rocha.
