The soccer team has trouble defeating the strong teams, loosing 1-0 to GW and 8-1 to Pomona.

On Monday the Spartan Soccer Boys played on their home field to take on long time rivals, the George Washington Patriots, battling an intensely close game, however ending in a devastating loss of 1-0 in overtime.
The Spartans played two long, scoreless halves, resulting in a five-minute overtime. Unfortunately, the guys had trouble dominating the field in those crucial minutes, and the Patriots scored a quick goal off of a free kick, winning the game. “While it is difficult to loose a game in that fashion, we have only ourselves to blame. We didn’t capitalize on the many opportunities we had, and we were not very disciplined,” said Varsity Coach Jon Poole.
The discouraging loss against George obviously got to the boys, as they fell to Pomona High School the following day 8-1. The single goal was scored by Senior Defender Hayden Johnson. “The communication factor was definitely left out in that game. We let them [Pomona] get into our heads, and they just took us down,” said Junior Midfielder Gabe da Silva.
With a handful of varsity starters missing or out with injuries, the Spartans struggled with gaining possession of the ball. “We were out there to just have some fun, and using that measuring stick, we definitely succeeded,” Poole said.
Despite the tough losses, the boys will be back again tomorrow, taking on the South Rebels at 4:00 p.m. at South. Make sure to be there to support the soccer team and watch them get right back on the winning track.
