The Spartan football team took to the field on Friday, October 22nd against their long standing league rivals East Angels, but unfortunately did not come out with a win, losing with a grave score of 26-0.

This was a must win game for TJ football if any hopes of having a run at playoffs were to be had, but the must win attitude was vacant on the field for the Spartans. The Spartans came to the game in hope of a continued turn around in their season after a nice win against George Washington, but were not able to put their plays together and found themselves down on the scoreboard early. “Sadly, this is the way it’s been all season” said Linebacker Ryan Colean, “We [TJ] just don’t come out strong from the beginning and get behind on the scoreboard early.”

Offensively, the Spartans didn’t really get anything going in the entire game and were unable to run the ball with the authority they have had in previous games. Also, the offense could not convert the great field position they were given by defensive stands and were completely shut out in the red zone, as seen in the final score. Defensively, the Spartans were unable to stop the powerful running offense of East, giving up almost 300 yards on the ground. Despite this, there were still some noteworthy bright spots on defense, one being Senior Ian Melnicoe who had an interception and return to within ten yards of the Spartan end zone. Melnicoe also combined with Senior Defensive End Brandon Tara for a forced and recovered fumble in the second half.

The Spartans have their last game of the season next weekend on Saturday, October 30th at 4:00 pm. They will be playing at All City Field against the Montbello Warriors and are the away team. The team hopes to complete their season on a strong note, and needs all the fan support they can get for their final game of the season.
