Girls’ Basketball Begins

Lady Spartans train hard to prepare for their first game on December 1st against Harrison.

As the temperature outside cools down, the court is what’s heating up here at Thomas Jefferson High School for girls’ basketball.

The Lady Spartans are already dedicating themselves to practice everyday, all leading up to their first game on December 1st against Harrison High School. “I think we’re going to be a good team this season. We’ve got some good chemistry going on, while last year there was just a lot of drama and we tended to rely on people to win,” said Junior Forward Becca Randall, who swung up to Varsity last year.

The team is drawing in a lot of attention this year. Although there are numerous returning varsity starters, there are also quite a few newcomers to the Lady Spartan team. “I used to play basketball back in elementary school, but just stopped once I got to high school. It’s my senior year, and I decided to go crazy and take it up again!” said Senior Newcomer Casey Edelman. It looks like the Lady Spartans are looking at a more successful season this year.

Be sure to catch the girls’ first game against Harrison; however, if you can’t make it, the girls’ first home game is the following Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Kent Denver High School. “My goal for the team this year is to win more. Our team has built up a pretty bad reputation within the past few years, and I’m ready to prove the school wrong.  I know we can do it,” said Becca.
