DECA helps make families’ wishes come true this holiday season.
At Thomas Jefferson the DECA club, run by Matt Nicolo, is hosting its annual Adopt-A-Family tradition November 29 through December 15, by organizing donations to help families in need for the Christmas holiday.
Each year the DECA program helps during the holiday season by sponsoring several families that are in need of financial help at this time of year. They have a total of 13 families to sponsor this season, and they are asking everyone throughout TJ to participate so it can be another successful holiday event. “It’s important that people participate in this community service, because it starts with TJ to lead by example. If we don’t start a movement, who will?” said Nicolo.
DECA is looking for help with any type of donations. They would suggest things like gift cards, toiletries, art supplies, movies, games, new clothing, toys for children two to fourteen years of age, baby stuff, house wares, and winter items like gloves, jackets, and hats. Participants can also make cash donations, and the TJ DECA students will go shopping for the families during the weekend of December 10th to purchase items that are on the family’s wish list. 100% of all the money and donations are being raised for the families in need. The donations will be accepted by Mr. Showers in room in 105 or by Mr. Nicolo in room 103 until Friday, December 10th.
On December 15th at 12:00 noon in room 105 DECA will be hosting the annual wrapping party. They will provide snacks, music, and holiday cheer as they wrap all the gifts collected for the families. Gifts will be delivered – or the families will pick them up – on Thursday December 16th. “I feel like it’s a rare opportunity to be able to help coordinate a program that would have such a big impact on a family’s life. I’m going to do as much as I can to make this Adopt-A-Family season as successful as possible,” said Senior Suprina Williams, who is the DECA Public Relations Representative.
Feel free to contact Mr. Nicolo by phone at (720) 423-7223 if you need any items picked up from your home or office.
