Spartan Soccer falls to Pomona 3-1, Lincoln 10-3, and Montbello 4-2.

It all started off on Thursday, September 22, when the boys’ soccer team couldn’t pull of the “W” while playing Pomona High School. The final score was 3-1, and the single goal was shot by Junior Abel Shifaraw with an assist from Freshman Edward Yepes. “We didn’t take the Pomona game as seriously because we wanted to rest up for the Lincoln game, which was the next day. We had a lot of fun playing Pomona and played with a lot of creativity and passion,” Senior Ed Gloor recalls.
The next day, the boys found themselves face to face with the Lincoln Lancers. In 2010, the Lancers gained the title of state runner-up when they lost to Fort Collins High School 3-0. The Spartans couldn’t compose themselves into a team on Friday, and were defeated 10-3. Junior Tyler Moehlman scored two of the goals, and Junior Damon Daniels scored the other.
Lastly, the Spartans traveled to Montbello and experienced a tough loss. “We should have won or tied,” Junior Ty Roder claimed. Roder and Yepes were fouled, and the two goals TJ scored were off of penalty kicks inside the 18-yard box. Senior Mitch Moore and Yepes took the penalty kicks.
“It was a 2-2 game, but then at the end, we made a couple mistakes which cost us the game,” Head Coach Jon Poole says.
On October 4th, the Spartans will come head to head with their long time rivals from George Washington. The game will be at GW, at 4:00. Be sure to stop by and check it out; it should be a great game.
