Starting With A Splash

The boys’ begins their season, earning 1^st place against Harrison and 2^nd place in the DPS league meet.

On Friday, March 9^th, the Boys’ Swim Team competed against Harrison High School in their first meet of the season.

The boys placed first in the meet, beating Harrison 106-68.  TJ took first place in most of the events they swam.  The only event Harrison beat the boys in was the 200 IM and the 50 Freestyle.  “Harrison came back better than they’ve ever been before, but we swam our best and beat them in almost every event,” said Junior Marcus Allen.

Being the first swim meet of the season, Juniors Jackson Epstein, Marcus Allen, Michael Mahoney, and Senior Mitch Moore qualified for state in the 200 Freestyle Relay.  “Great job to Jackson, Marcus, Mike, and Mitch for having the focus and determination to qualify for state,” said Head Coach Cindy Allen.  “It was a great first meet and all the athletes were prepared and preformed at 100%.”

Then, on Wednesday, March 14^th, the boys swam at their first DPS league meet.   This meet is put in place to allow all of the DPS schools to compete against each other to see which school is best in the district at the beginning of the season. “The boys came prepared and it is a little intimidating the first league meet,” said Coach Allen.  “There is a lot of pressure to perform at your best and we fell a little short, but the team always makes the appropriate adjustments.”

The boys came in second place over all behind East, but they were proud of themselves.  “It was a good meet and everyone stepped up and did their best.  We even beat George Washington by 100 points,” said Junior Daniel Webster, who felt that the team performed well.

Because of the meets, Webster also felt that the future of the team looks bright.  “I think that this team has a really good chance of winning city this year.”
