Falling to the Angels

Spartan falls short at the Angel Invite and the meet against East.

The boys’ swim team has had a tough run in its past two meets at the Angel Invite and the East Swim meet, both events held at Manual High School.

Don’t mistake the two, because they are not the same meet. The Angel Invite was a meet against multiple schools including TJ, East, Smoky Hill, Standley Lake, Cherokee Trail, Lakewood, and Columbine.  The East meet was just TJ competing with East in their own meet.  “The kids we saw at the meet are the same kids that we will be seeing at the state competition, so it helped us get prepared and see what we’re in for,” said Junior Marcus Allen.

Smoky Hill took first place with a total score of 250 points.  East came in second place, with a total of 153 points.  The TJ boys came in 6^th place with a total of 55 points.  “It was a tough competition,” said Allen

In the East meet, TJ couldn’t pull of the win with a final score of 66-113.  “We went in determined and ready to swim, but sadly some kids were disqualified in some races, and others didn’t swim their best time, but everyone gave it 100 percent.  It was a learning experience,” said Marcus Allen, who came in first place for the 100 Butterfly.  Sophomore Benton Moore came in first place for the 100 Breast Stroke.

Next week, on Wednesday, April 11^th, the swimmers will be back with their tri-meet against North High School and George Washington.  The meet will take place here at TJ at 4:15.  Be sure to go and support both our divers and our swim team as they prepare for big events.
