Head Strong

The Girls’ Soccer team has a tough loss to East, but defeats Englewood High School.

The girls’ soccer team keeps a strong head on their shoulders after a loss to East, and kept their energy high for a triumphant victory against Englewood.

The big game against East was held on Friday, April 6^th at TJ.  The final score of the game was 5-1.  “We lost it when they first scored, but then we regained confidence in the second half, and then we scored our first goal towards the end,” said Junior Rachel Uyemura.  Freshman Marinah McGinnis scored the lone goal for TJ with the assist from Freshaman Quinn Roder.  East has always been a tough competitor for all of the Thomas Jefferson sports, and Uyemura said the girls were just proud that they were able to get a goal on the Angels.

The next Monday, April 9^th, the girls headed over to Englewood High School where they competed against the Pirates.  It was a close game during the first half, and they went into halftime with a tied score of 0-0.  The girls picked it up in the second half, scoring three goals.  “They were really aggressive and we weren’t prepared for that.  After we settled down our touch, we scored our three goals,” said Uyemura.  Mcginnis scored the first one, and her sister, Junior Braelah McGinnis, topped the game off by scoring two more goals, ending with a final score of 3-0.

Their next game is one Wednesday, April 11, 2012, against another DPS rival, the John F. Kennedy Commanders.  It will be a home game at 4:00, so be sure to support you Lady Spartans.
