Victory Over the Commanders

The soccer girls defeat Kennedy 5-0.

On Wednesday, April 11, the TJ Girls’ Soccer Team went up against the Kennedy Commanders with high hopes, and it paid big dividends.

It was a great game for the girls, as have all of their games against DPS teams been this year, and they came out strong once more.  They demolished the Commanders with a final score of 5-0.  “We really started playing as a team and we had most of our touch back,” said Junior Rachel Uyemura.

In the first half, the girls were able to gain a two goal lead.  Freshman Kelly Cordes scored the first goal off of a corner kick by Freshman Quinn Roder. Then, right before the half ended, Cordes scored the second goal.

After being held inside due to a tornado watch during half time, the soccer squad was ready to go back out and play.  In the second half, TJ scored three goals.  Junior Braelah McGinnis scored two goals, and Senior Belen Gomez scored the other goal, ending the game with the final tally of 5-0.  Gomez said she was proud of the way her team played.  “It was amazing seeing our team playing with joy as we kept scoring,” said Gomez.

The girls will have their next game at the start of the week, Monday, April 16^th, against the Montbello Warriors.  The game will he held on home turf at TJ at 5:30 p.m.  Be sure to go show your Spartan spirit and support your girls’ soccer team.
