The Spartan tradition lives on as Homecoming week arrives.
Beginning Monday, September 17th, there will be a whole week with set days that allow students to dress up and be creative as they prepare for all the spirit activities and events at the end of the Homecoming week. This year TJ has planned a week of fun, with cool and wacky themes for each day.
Monday September 17th is Twin Day. Twin day is a time for students an their friends to dress up and coordinate with each other, but remember that “twins” don’t have to match only with one other person! Junior Brenda Portillo says, “Twin day is my favorite theme each year; it is always on the spirit week list and it’s a tradition that me an my friends participate in dressing up!”
Tuesday September 18th is Back-In-The-Day. The Back-In-The-Day theme is when students dress up in clothes that are not from this era. It’s time to look into the parents’ closets and find their wackiest, outdated outfits.
Wednesday September 19th is Tie Dye Day/Neon day. Whip out your old hippie t-shirt or make your own before the day gets here! Wear your brightest clothes! To find out what tie-dye is all about go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tie-dye and DIY. Sophomore Caitlin Rogers says, “I love it so much, it’s to dye for!”
Thursday September 20th is TJ Day. There will also be a pep assembly during the day, when all Spartans young and old can showcase their pride. Break out all the Brown a gold! It’s a time to celebrate and show Spartan pride. Sophomore Bryan Wright says, ” TJ day is my favorite theme of spirit week because you get to see all the pride that all the students have for this school. I’m really excited for spirit week; it was great last year and the leadership group is doing an amazing job.”
Friday September 21st Students have no school, but it doesn’t mean that spirit week ends. Starting at 1:00 p.m. all Spartans will have the chance to go to the Tailgate at TJ. Senior class sponsor Matt Santambrogio says, “The tailgate is going to be the beginning of an epic set of traditions, and will be full of fun and merriment.”
Here’s a glance at the big day:
1:15-1:45 p.m. is the three-legged race
1:45-2:00 p.m. Wagon Race
2:00-2:45 p.m. Powder Puff (Will not be at lunch on Thursday)
2:45-3:15 p.m. Tug of war
While there are all these amazing activities going on there will also be food and drinks provided. Spartans can also participate in the annual Car Decoration to see which grade decorates the best! Each grade level has their own vehicle with the chance to decorate it with Spartan colors and streamers.
But don’t leave just yet! At 4 p.m. the boys’ soccer team has a game, so stay and support! Finally after the soccer game at all City Field (At South High School) at 7:00 p.m. support your Spartan Football Team, who will be playing against Lincoln!
This year Spartans will have a chance to pay ONLY THREE DOLLARS for a seat on the bus that will not only take them to All City Field, but it also pays for the ticket to get in. At 5:30 p.m. the bus will leave from TJ! For more information talk to Santambrogio.
Junior Spartan Wide Receiver Zion Rivera says, “It will be a night to remember, and we are on our way to the state title, so be there to see us tear up Lincoln.”
The final event of Spirit week will be Saturday September 22nd from 8:00-11:00 p.m., when TJ will be hosting Homecoming in the gym! Freshman Michelle Brown says, ” This will be my first homecoming and I’m happy to be having it at TJ. I’m so excited and I know that it’s going to be a night to remember.”
