Thomas Jefferson’s boys’ tennis defeats three Denver Public Schools in the past week.
The boys’ most recent match was against Denver North, where they completely shut out the Vikings with a score of 7-0. In the entire match, North was only able to win two sets total. Senior Amadou Kromah dominated in his matches, not allowing one win for his opponent. Head Coach, Tim Cueva, was pleased with his team’s performance. “ Our number two Doubles, [Sophomore] Westin Wilkins and [Freshman] Devin Anderson finally pulled the monkey off their back and won their match. The rest of the team just dominated,” said Cueva, who was also pleased with his Junior Varsity team. “Our JV kids continue to dominate and haven’t lost a match yet. It gives us hope for the future with all the young players on that squad.”
Not long before North, the mighty Spartans competed against Kennedy, in which they added another victory. “Amadou dropped his first match in a disappointing loss. It was a hard fought match but he just came up short,” said Cueva. Although his teammate lost, Senior Jeremy Albright continued to defeat his opponents. This match allowed Albright to continue his winning streak of five wins. The young talent on the TJ tennis squad continue to shed their light on the team, as Freshman Jonny Sundeen and Henry Allen moved to four and one. “We’re just playing good tennis,” said Cueva.
Lastly, on September 6th, TJ defeated the South Rebels. Jeremy Albright played a three-set match in which he lost the first one, but rebounded quickly to win the last two, which Cueva described as the best match of the meet. “Amadou won in dominant fashion, winning straight sets,” said Cueva.
These last few matches leave the Spartans with a record of 5-1, with only three more to go.
If you missed the past matches, have no fear! The Spartans will face the East Angels on Thursday, September 20th on their home court at 4:00 p.m. Be sure to go out and show your support, for it is supposed to be a great match!
