After a week full of hype, TJ football delivers under the lights.
In an offensive explosion on Friday night, the Spartans wore down the Lincoln Lancers to a final score of 39-14, and sent TJ with high spirits into homecoming.
From the start of the game, both teams were set on running the ball. Lincoln came out in the pistol offense with two backs making an ‘L’ formation in the backfield. TJ went more with the classic ‘I’ formation with a full back and a half back. In the Spartans’ first scoring drive, they showed their dedication to running the ball, and it ended on an Ed Martin touchdown scamper to put TJ up 6-0. TJ continued to run the ball throughout the game, with a few deep passes included into the offense. Senior quarterback Nick Lednev found senior receiver Abraham Woldu later in the game for a 57 yard touchdown pass.
The offense was not the only thing going well for the Spartans in the game, as the defense played shut down all night. Lincoln put drives together few and far between, and only scored twice later in the game when it was far out of reach. TJ finished out the game, and sent the student section home happy on a beautiful Friday night. Senior Tyler Moehlman said, “It was a great win, especially for senior year. Homecoming got a whole lot better.”
The Spartans can only celebrate for a short time though, as Mitchell High School lurks next week. Mitchell is a 3A opponent and will be a new experience for the entire team.
