The boys’ soccer team managed a tie against Montbello High School, 0-0, and lost a close one in overtime to 3A powerhouse Kent Denver High School, 2-1.

On Tuesday, September 25 the Spartan boys’ soccer team tied Montbello High School, and on Friday, September 28, they were defeated by Kent Denver High School. “It was a tough game and we fought hard, but we didn’t do enough to get the win,” stated Senior Midfielder Nathan Gengler.
Coming off a tough loss to Defending 5A State Champions, Denver East, the boys were looking to rebound with a league victory against Montbello High School. The game was played in the rain and both sides fought to a scoreless draw.
Heading into Fridays’ game, the team’s record stood at 4-3-1 on the season. Kent Denver has been a recurring down-the-street rival of the Spartans, and a powerhouse in 3A. After a tough first half, the boys found themselves down 1-0. With a late goal in the second half by Junior Midfielder Daniel Yehdego, the score stood at 1-1. Going into overtime the Spartans had all the momentum, but with a strong offensive attack, Kent was able to score in the first overtime. The game ended in a 2-1 defeat. “We fought for most of the game, but we lost focus and intensity right at the end when we most needed it,” said Senior Goalkeeper Colin Suzuki.
The two games put the boys’ soccer team at 4-4-1 on the season. An important home game against George Washington High School is the next opponent on Tuesday, October 2 at 4:00 p.m.
