Spartans fall to Erie Tigers, as playoff hopes get dismantled.
On a cold Friday night, the Spartans lost to the Erie Tigers 49-0. Thomas Jefferson started the game with two fumbles in its first two possessions, and Erie capitalized with quick scores on the ground. TJ found themselves down 28-0 at half.
The running attack that Erie displayed seemed to dismay the Spartan defense, as a big run was given up almost every drive. The second half started the same way with quick scores by the Tigers. The Spartans found themselves in a hole that seemed insurmountable at 49-0.
There were some bright spots for the Spartans. Senior Wide Receiver Abraham Woldu had a catch over the back of an Erie Tiger, Sophomore Quarterback Obed Munoz sparked the offense for awhile with a few running first downs, and Senior Safety Isaac Manzaneres had an interception right before half. “We played hard. As we made mistakes, we broke down even more. They ran the exact same plays we expected. We made some plays, but more mistakes,” stated Sophomore Quarterback Obed Munoz. This game impacted playoff implications and knocked the Spartans out of contention. The Spartans record now stands at 4-5; 1-3 in league.
TJ’s next game is against Frederick High School. The game is on Saturday, November 3, at 4 p.m. at All City Stadium. It’s senior night, and the last game of the season, so be sure to go out and support your fellow Spartans.
