Green Mountain proves too much for the Spartan girls, who have high hopes for the season.
On November 28, the Lady Spartans put on their new travel suits, new warmups, and new Marquette brown jerseys, to take on the state-ranked Green Mountain Rams at a Lakewood High School tournament, and came up short on their first game, 42-27.
The Spartans came out with a quick lead, but the Rams pushed through and stayed ahead for most of the game. “Girls, we just need to trust our abilities, and make sure we run our offense correctly,” said Head Coach Damion Allen during his half-time chalk talk with the girls. “I believe in the girls and I believe we can work hard,” said Allen.
This first game was chalked up as a learning experience for the Lady Spartans. “We, as a team, just need more confidence in the plays coach draws up. If we run, we can overcome a lot,” said Team Captain, Jacqueline Waring.
“We need to put this game behind us and learn from our mistakes to improve our game for the next round,” said Coach Allen.
The girls will continue their tournament at Lakewood high school this Saturday, December 1st at 1:30 p.m.
