Girls start off with an 0-4 record, but continue to improve offensively.
The Lady Spartans finished their Lakewood tournament, on Saturday December 1st, with back-to-back games against Centarus and Castleview, losing them both: 62-37 and 68-27, respectively.
Centarus Warrior Backers of Lafyette, Coloardo were in high spirits on Saturday and sped off to a quick win against the Lady Spartans in a non-league game. Centarus started off the 1st quarter with a 23-7 lead. But the Lady Spartans came back in the second quarter and kept the Backers to nine points the whole quarter.
Leading scorer, Senior Guard Cleora Kopeke, talks about the defensive mind thought through the game: “We weren’t focused on it and let them score on us and beat us offensively,” she said.
During the Castle View game, which was the second game on Saturday, the Spartans came out more aggressively but could not win. “We went into the tournament and we expected to win more games. We should have won the games we played, but the girls, regardless, showed great progress,” said Coach Damion Allen. “There is a lot of good things for these girls, and I’m excited to see what they can improve on by the end of my first season.”
