Thomas Jefferson Spartans finish off their second tournament, Boulder tournament, with a “W”.
The Thomas Jefferson Spartans Girls’ Basketball team lost Thursday’s away tournament game against the Erie Tigers 43-40, but returned to Lafayette on Saturday for their first win of the season, against Hinkley, 46-34.
During the Erie game, the Spartans sped off to a quick lead, dominating the Tigers 9-8 during the first quarter. Spartans didn’t do as well during the 2nd quarter, being out-shot 16-4. But during the third and fourth, the Spartans outscored the Tigers 27-19. Within the last seconds of the game, Erie cashed in on a couple free throws, to finish up the game. “That was a close game and the girls worked really hard, but couldn’t pull of the win,” said Coach Damion Allen.
Then, on Saturday December 8, the Thomas Jefferson Lady Spartans felled the host Hinkley Thunderbirds basketball team, and won their first game. The ladies now are 1-5. “It was great getting our first win, and everyone was really happy, this game goes to prove that were capable of winning games, with confidence in our offense and defense,” said Senior, Forward Jaqueline Waring.
The ladies travel to play their first league game at Manual on Tuesday.
