Spartans travel four hours to Rifle and came up short, but reflect on an overall great season.
Spartans traveled all the way to Rifle on Tuesday, February 26th, to play their first round playoffs game, and came up short 62-33.
At the first half the Spartans were on top beating Rifle by eight points, then some of the ladies got into foul trouble and lost the lead. Opponents, Chante Churh and Joey Kuhelm scored a combine 48 points to come out on top and knock the Spartans out of the first round playoff.
The Spartans ended with a 10-12 record and coming in third in the DPS league. Before losing to George, the Spartans were on a hot 4-0 run. “Success is measured in wins and losses; the record won’t show, but we still had a good season. As for the Rifle game, foul trouble, lack of offense, and poor defensive execution added up to a first round exit,” said Coach Damion Allen, who believes that the season shouldn’t have ended so soon.
Seniors played their last career game, this year, as there aren’t any seniors going on to play college basketball. Senior Center, Jacqueline Waring, stated, “It’s disappointing to see my senior year basketball end with a loss far from home, but overall I would say this was a successful season. We started the season winless for five straight games. Despite everything, we accomplished a lot of great things. We reached 500 and made it to playoffs in Coach DA’s first season. I am very thankful to have been a captain and leader for my teammates. I wouldn’t give up this season for anything.”
Good Job Spartan Ladies!
