The boys’ swim team has begun their season, and has made quite a splash.
The boys’ already have four meets under their belts and have come out on top for all of them.
The most recent meet was the East Angle Invitational. The Spartans placed 11th out of 15 teams and were one of two 4A teams that attended the meet. The boys were in the top ten in their relays, resulting in all three relays qualifying for State because they all met the times they needed to meet in order to qualify.
Before that, on March 14th, the boys competed in the DPS Relay meet. The team placed 4th overall and everyone placed in the top 5 in all of their events. Sophomores Connor Langeberg, Alex Orzescu, Junior Chris Street, and Senior Jackson Epstein placed first in the 200-yard Backstroke. Seniors Marcus Allen, Michael Mahoney, Nick Lednev and Junior Devin Anderson placed third in the 200-yard Butterfly Relay. In the 200-yard Breaststroke Relay, Sophomores Cyrus Brown, Travis Domagala and Junior Benton Moore, and Street placed second. In the 500-yard Crescendo Relay, Seniors Ben Smiley, Daniel Webster, Epstein, and Anderson placed fourth. Sophomore Levi Exner, Brown, Lednev and Webster placed fourth in the 400-yard Medley Relay. In first place for the 100-yeard Freestyle Relay were Exner, Domagala, Moore, and Epstein. Lastly, in third place for the 400-yard Individual Medley Relay were Allen, Mahoney, Orzescu and Langeberg.
The Harrison meet was on March 12th, and the boys smashed. They came in first place for all 12 events they swam in except one. The final score for the meet was 120-53.
Their first meet, the DPS Pentathlon, took place on March 8th, and the boys again competed well. Over all, the team placed second. Individually, Orzescu places second, Mahoney placed third, and Langeberg placed fifth in the long track. In the short track, Epstein placed third, Allen fourth, Domagala eighth, and Lednev 12th.
Over all, Head Coach Cynthia Allen says she is impressed with the team. “We have a great team. Our roster has grown by about five kids compared to last year, and they are all working very hard,” said Cynthia, who commented that everyone is working very hard and they are all dedicated to the sport. “We still have that family feel.”
Up next will be the meet against the East Angels. It will be here at TJ, so head over to the pool and support the boys!
