The TJ baseball team beat three out of the four teams they played this past week, including two crucial league victories.

On Saturday April 20th, the boys took on Prairie View High School, stomping them with a score of 11-1. Sophomore Jeffrey Torres went 3 for 3 at the plate and drove in one run for the Spartans. Also, Junior ace Samuel Reed pitched a solid five innings allowing only one run. “We knew we needed to assert our dominance and did so with this blowout win,” said Junior Shawn Kelly.
The next week the boys had three games in three days. The first on Thursday, April 25th, was played against Longmont High School. After going into extra innings, the Spartans gave up two runs in the bottom of the 10th to lose 6-5. Senior Tony Pacheco went 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in two runs.
The following day, the Spartans played Denver North and narrowly escaped winning 1-0. Sophomore David Peterson was the lone Spartan on the day to drive in a run, and it proved to be a vital one. Reed pitched a seven-inning shutout, allowing only two hits.
To end the long weekend, the George Washington Patriots came to TJ and got smashed by the Spartans, losing 10-0. Pacheco earned the victory with six innings and three hits allowed. “These games showed us how to win when we play multiple games in a short stretch. We needed to learn how to come through when it counted, which will help us come playoff time,” stated Junior Cooper Bowermaster. The Spartans now sit at 9-6 on the season and will be playing Denver South, Denver East, and Valor Christian in the upcoming week as they look to secure a playoff berth.
