TJ’s cheer team takes the title of DPS Co-Ed League Champions.
TJs cheer has built upon and continued the success of last year. They have shown us that working hard and putting in the effort pays off. Competing for the first time at League, they earned the first place title for the 4/5a co-ed division, with almost no deductions. Hoping to continue their success next year, they are practicing year round to go back to League next year and earn that title once again. “Although practicing over the summer is a hassle, it allowed us to perfect our routines which is why we did so well at League,” explained sophomore Isabella Nieves. By winning against Lincoln High School, which is a three time DPS League champion, it was clear that the extra summer practice was worth it.
Along with taking first place at League the team also plans to go to state next year to continue building upon their success. Sadly, a few of their teammates got hurt this year, but that didn’t keep their spirits down from practicing for next year’s state competition. Junior Melani Elena explained that they “decided to wait until next year, so we can have more time to prepare and gain more skills.”
Helping them build their success, the team has gained more than 10 people going from a team of 10 to a team of over 20. With gaining this many new teammates, it allows them to do more stunts and try more intense routines. Planning on going to League and State next year, they are pushing their limits to be the best they can be. Not only did they gain new teammates, but some of the new teammates they have gained are gymnasts too, allowing them to try themselves and do more difficult tricks and expand upon their flying capabilities.
