Artist: Fischerspooner
by Rhea Boyd
Fischerspooner is a New Yorker electroclash duo who is leaving their mark on pop culture with their original music, art and fashion.
When I first listened to Fischerspooner in 2005, I was intrigued by their interesting sound and lyrics. The first song I ever heard of Fischerspooner’s was Emerge. It was a clear example of what Fischerspooner was all about: repetitive electronic beats and lyrics laced with a unique mixture of funky vocals. The singer, Casey Spooner, has an impressive vocal range. The sound is soft and lyrical, surprisingly clear for a male lead, and never fails to reach the high keys. Although many songs and albums by electronic artists end up running together because they are so alike, Fischerspooner has a profoundly unique sound. As soon as the song begins they are easy to identify because of their electro beats, vocals and energetic pace.
Some of the lyrics are amusing yet thoughtful, and they all have plenty of Fischerspooner personality, which inevitably gets stuck in the listener’s head all day long.
One of my personal favorites by this electronic infused duo is a newer song of theirs’, The Best Revenge. The track is a beautiful collaboration of their old style (Spooner’s vocals and technological input) and a new sound (faster paced and more electropop style).
This electroclash troupe was formed in New York in 1998. The twosome is made up of Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner, thus the name “Fischerspooner”. They originally played the Astor Place Starbucks, with dancers and guest vocalists. They presented their new sound to the public through the singles Emerge and Never Win. Fischerspooner’s second album, Odyssey, was released in 2005 and gained them plenty of publicity.
So far in 2008 Fischerspooner has released two songs off their yet-to-be-titled newest album, produced by Jeff Saltzman. They have no plans of slowing down or quitting.
With their beguiling sound and interesting culture, Fischerspooner is ruling my “Frequently Listened To” playlist.
