The Leadership team has planned a Mardi Gras dance for TJ students.
In continuation of a new tradition, a second dance for the entire school to enjoy will be held on March 9th. After realizing that TJ students needed more time to relax and have a good time with their peers outside of school, Leadership students threw the Snow Ball dance for the school last year. This year, as spring break approaches, a Mardi Gras-themed dance will be thrown. Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is the practice of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.
The week of March 4th will start off with delicious pancakes being served on Tuesday morning. Students will be greeted with a warm, tasty welcome, signaling that the week has much more fun in store. Spartans should have an eye out for cake during lunch on Friday. Leadership members will hand out cake as a representation of the traditional King Cake that is a part of the real Mardi Gras celebration. Students should be buying their $5 tickets all this week during lunch and after school in front of the cafeteria.
Since this Mardi Gras occasion is styled after a Sadie Hawkins dance, it is suggested that the girls ask out their dates. The dance will start at 8 p.m. in the green, gold, and purple decorated gym, and attendees can party it up until 11 p.m.. During the dance, colorful beads will be handed out which students can wear to embellish their outfits. Speaking of outfits, Spartans are encouraged to dress in semi-formal attire, ensuring they are comfortable, stylish, and ready to dance the night away.
While all out-of-school events are important to attend, Spartans should always make it a point to attend dances like Homecoming, Prom, and this upcoming Mardi Gras dance. Senior and Leadership member Jaelyn Jackson voiced, “I am looking forward to seeing everyone having a good time and having the chance to hang out with their friends.” The Mardi Gras dance will be an opportunity for students to further integrate themselves into the TJ community and hang out with new people. So, this Saturday, come be a part of this new tradition and do not forget to let the good times roll at the Mardi Gras dance. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
