Big Ten has found a way to make their After Prom a night to remember
From very young ages, people are stoked for their prom and can’t wait to look like a “prince” or a “princess” on that very special night. They see all the movies with the picture-perfect proms, watch their family and friends drive away in the limo to dance their night away, and from the day they enter high school, most just cannot wait for that night of nights. However, with no money to pay for prom or after prom, there is no way for those dreams to come true. The class of 2010 has stewed up a way to make some extra money so that their “night of nights” doesn’t end in some person’s basement.
The parents and students of this year’s graduating class set up a fundraiser hoping to help support the TJ after prom with a 5K fund-run on November 7, 2009. A 5K run is about the equivalent of 3.1 miles. It is being held on school grounds, which means the runners are not going out of their way to make it to the run. Although it is called a 5K run, 2010 sponsor and parent, Deb Duemling, is encouraging everyone to join the fun. “Runners, walkers, strollers, and dog walkers are all welcome!”
The class of ’10 is in need of money for a good after prom and Duemling has great hopes for this run. “We have about $5,500, while we need about $14,000 more. Hopefully with this run we can collect another $1,000.” With the race being a ten dollar registration fee ($15 if you sign up on race day), there is a very good chance that this will bring in big bucks for big ten.
“This race is a very good way of raising money. The students are raising the money for themselves,” Duemling said, “If this fundraiser becomes an annual occurrence for the graduating classes, this could be the most successful fundraiser each year. Juniors pay attention!”
