The Boys Hoop Squad defeated Evergreen Thursday night, winning 55-52 in overtime.
TJ opened the Paul Davis Classic right, with a strong win against a determined Evergreen Cougar team. After eliminating the Cougars last year in the playoffs, the Spartans knew that Evergreen was going to be looking to exact some revenge. “We knew that Evergreen wanted to beat us bad because of last year’s results, but we just stayed the course and played our style of basketball,” said Junior Guard Miles McIntosh. The Spartans received strong contributions from Seniors Ray Riley (25 pts including five 3-pointers) and Billy Sprague (9 rebounds).
The Spartans gave up the lead for the first time late in the fourth quarter, but Riley and his teammates dominated in overtime, and came up with the win. “Hopefully we are learning how to finish games. We had a great start with our first quarter defense, but we have to figure out a way not to let up,” said Head Coach Grant Laman.
The Hoop Squad will next be in action tonight, Friday, December 11, as they bring their 3-2 overall record into a match-up with Wasson High School at 8:00 pm. The Spartans will once again be playing at Green Mountain, and will continue to do so through Saturday.
