The infamous Tate brothers have recently been arrested for speculation of several crimes.
On December 29th, Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, were detained in Bucharest, Romania, for crimes relating to sex trafficking, organized crimes, and rape. According to The Verge, speculations started after a banter on Twitter arose between Andrew and well-known climate change activist, Greta Thunberg. He wrote, “Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions.” Thunberg then replied with a short response which seemed to shut Tate down. However, ten hours later, Tate posted a video of him in a bathrobe opening his hotel door, cigar in hand receiving a pizza. This ended up revealing their hotel’s location. The police had been attempting to track Tate down for a bit and not long after, Andrew and Tristan were arrested.
The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) explained that six victims of the Tate brothers were identified and were apparently forced into “acts of physical violence and mental coercion” in order to force them to create sexual content. The court suspects that the brothers used techniques like the “lover boy” method, which entails seducing women and afterwards abusing them. These victims were then put into the trafficking cycle and put through further abuse. Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and is fighting to be released each day.
The news seems to be mostly concentrated on Andrew; however, he wasn’t the only one involved. Tristan also played a part in these crimes. Tristan doesn’t have the same online presence as his brother, but he owns a chain of casinos with Andrew. Together, they live a luxurious life and share similar opinions on women and masculinity which is a part of the reason why they are so close.
The brothers relocated to Romania due to their disgust regarding movements like “MeToo” in the United States. Romania doesn’t have a strict law around rape, which was a large reason that they decided to seek “refuge” there for less backlash on their crimes. This attitude that Andrew possesses is part of the reason why he has such a large following. Many men aspire to entertain the same “alpha male” ego that he has. Andrew is a self-proclaimed misogynist and is a former kickboxer who has gained views from his controversial opinions that he shares online. Some include his opinions on dating and how the male in the relationship is superior and owns his “woman.” In a video, he explained how he would choke his partner with a machete if she were to ever cheat on him. Tate also has made claims about how if a woman were to get raped, it would always be her fault. All of these attitudes and claims have only helped the Romanian government keep him detained.
As a result of his arrest, Andrew has been banned from several social media sites such as Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, and Facebook. The future for the Tate brothers is unknown, but the Romanian government plans to keep a close eye on them in their detainment.
