The boys got their first win of the season on Wednesday night, defeating the Montbello Warriors 16-0.
Looking to get on the right page, and in need of a victory, the Spartans sent Senior Hurler Brennan Henry to the mound, and he did not disappoint, throwing a no hitter. Through five innings, Henry had nine strikeouts, while only surrendering three walks.
The Spartans bats also helped the cause as they scorched all warrior pitchin,g finishing the game with 14 hits. Junior Kyle Freeland led the Spartan charge going three for four with three RBI’s. Freeland also hit a homerun. Sophomore Trevor Thornton (the teams leader in hits and average last season), went three for three and, like Freeland, had three RBI’s. “This was a good game for us. It’s always nice to get the first win out of the way; now we can really get settled in. Valor will be a tough match-up but we have all the confidence in the world,” Thornton said.
The Spartans were able to see a lot of their younger players get in the game and gain experience moving forward. In total, 14 different players recorded a least one at bat.
The boys will look to keep their momentum going when they next take on the Valor Christian Eagles. The game will be on Saturday, March 20 at 11:00 am, and will be played at Valor Christian.
