Women’s Empowerment is a club dedicated to creating a safe space for women.
The Women’s Empowerment club at TJ is looking for more students to join their community of supporting women within the school. As the club grows, its leaders hope to expand participation, create meaningful conversations, and ensure that every student feels welcomed and supported.
Women’s Empowerment aims to provide a space where students can openly discuss topics related to femininity, personal growth, and the experiences girls face both inside and outside of school. The club encourages honest dialogue, mutual respect, and learning. It allows members to connect through conversations that may not come up in traditional classroom settings. By offering a supportive environment, the organization hopes to help students feel seen, heard, and empowered about being a woman.
Club president and senior Mya Robinson, shared that one of the main goals for this year is improving the organization and creating a clearer structure compared to last semester. According to Robinson, the club wants to improve planning and structure of the club. With improved planning and more structured meetings, the team hopes to create a more engaging and enjoyable experience for its members. This includes introducing more interactive activities and planning trips so that students can connect beyond the school setting.
Robinson explained that a key priority for Women’s Empowerment is disproving the idea that the club only belongs to one social group. She hopes students understand that the space is meant to bring different personalities, backgrounds, and experiences together rather than separating them. Instead of exclusivity, the goal is connection and creating a welcoming environment where anyone interested in supporting and discussing womanhood can feel comfortable participating.
For Robinson, being part of Women’s Empowerment is deeply personal. She explained that, “I wanted to be a leader for a cause that’s important to me, which is women having a safe space for womanhood.” She hopes that through the club, girls will have a group where they feel safe, supported, and understood.
The club plans to discuss a wide range of topics throughout the year, including feminine issues, current events, and challenges that young women face today. These conversations are intended to foster understanding and encourage members to share their perspectives while learning from others. By creating opportunities for dialogue about these issues, the organization aims to strengthen confidence and help members build meaningful connections.
Women’s Empowerment also hopes to shift perceptions about what the club represents. Rather than being seen as a small or exclusive group, leaders want students to recognize it as a larger community built on inclusivity and shared experiences. The club welcomes anyone interested in supporting a positive environment centered around growth, empowerment, and mutual respect.
As Women’s Empowerment continues to grow at Thomas Jefferson, its members and teacher sponsor Meghan Tocci are optimistic about the future. With improved organization, expanded activities, and a renewed focus on inclusivity, the club hopes to create lasting connections among students while providing a safe and uplifting space for women. Through open conversations, community building events, and ongoing outreach, Women’s Empowerment aims to make a meaningful impact on the TJ community this year and for many years to come.
