The National Technical Honors Society makes its way to TJ after the 2024 SkillsUSA Nationals.
As the new year has kicked off, the National Technical Honors Society (NTHS) has made its yearly comeback to schools all over the nation. NTHS is a non-profit organization whose mission is to commemorate and empower both students and teachers in Career & Technical Education (CTE). According to the official NTHS website, starting in 1984, NTHS has served over 1.2 million students and school staff in secondary and higher education; eventually leading students to develop not only their careers, but their leadership skills as well. NTHS focuses on four different core objectives—Career Development, Leadership, Service, and Recognition Opportunities, whose objective is to create a bright and commemorable future for students around the world.
CTE is a great opportunity for students to develop various knowledgeable and academic skills. The CCT program we have at TJ is all CTE oriented. With different hands-on learning experiences and training for different career sets, CTE implores students to push themselves through apprenticeship and internship, eventually setting them up for success and assisting them in pursuing diverse career options best suited to their abilities. Following the Smith-Hughes Act in 1917, CTE was started in order to provide vocational education and training in several different fields of economics and agriculture. Studies shown by the NTHS reveal that 276,290 students from kindergarten to 12th grade are enrolled in CTE courses across 401 high schools around the United States as of 2023.
As of 2023, NTHS has provided over $3 million in scholarships to students, as seen on their official website. Today, CTE and NTHS both continue to serve a crucial role in education across the nation, constantly evolving to suit the modern economy and keeping up with both students and staff in a multitude of schools and universities. With these various opportunities, students chosen in NTHS have astounding offers for college.
NTHS has its own Chapter Awards Program, replacing its former Silver Star of Excellence Award. The Chapter Awards Program provides a structured path for students throughout their academic year at different high schools, overall leading to outstanding recognition for both high schools and its members. This year, the NTHS has its own special program at TJ. This program started at TJ after CCT teacher Jonathan Howard and senior Emanuel Morales-Gomez, SkillsUSA chapter President, met a representative from SkillsUSA Nationals. Chapter meetings for the NTHS occur at TJ during the first Thursday of each month. The goal of this program is to help students who have achieved academic excellence in CTE skills to provide a future for themselves based on a vast variety of career options.
NTHS is an outstanding organization that helps in preparing and assisting students for their future and the career paths they wish to pursue. It is highly recommended and encouraged for students to have a structured academic path that will guide them through both secondary and postsecondary education. All in all, NTHS is an amazing opportunity for students who strive for academic excellence and success.
