Spartans look to continue dominance in DPS, as early favorites for the league title in the 4th year under Coach Robby Bales.

The highlights of the 2012 season can be expressed through another city title for the Spartans who have won nine of the past ten, along with Senior first baseman Evan Walter being named to All-State. The Spartans went 12-8 on the season and 8-0 in league. The boys reached the playoffs but sadly fell to Thompson Valley in the first round. The Spartans return 12 players from the previous campaign and look forward to the 2013 season when they plan to be very competitive in not only DPS but also the 4A classification. Returning all league for the Spartans are Senior Zack Robinson and Junior Samuel Reed for first team, along with Junior Cooper Bowermaster and Junior Shawn Kelly for second team. Three other returning Spartans made honorable mention including now Senior James DiPaolo, Corey Hernandez, Antonio Pacheco. The boys are hopeful for a terrific season so be sure to go out and support your fellow Spartans.

On Friday, March 9th, the Spartans took on Rifle High School at TJ and came through with a big win 4-2. Junior Samuel Reed pitched a terrific game, going six innings and striking out 11 batters. Junior Cooper Bowermaster led the way with two hits and two RBIs. “We started out the season the way we hoped and now we know what we need to work on for upcoming games,” stated Junior Shawn Kelly.

The Spartans looked to continue their dominant play as they took on 7th ranked Windsor High School. Sadly, after a close battle, the boys fell 9-4. TJ put up three runs in the bottom of the 7th but it wasn’t enough to muster a comeback. The boys’ record stands at 1-1 on the season. Their next home game is Monday, March 18th against Denver Christian High School at TJ at 4:00 p.m.
