The TJ boys traveled to Cherry Creek High School in mid December where they played in the three-day Cherry Creek Tournament.
On Thursday, December 20th, the Spartans took on the Montbello Warriors, winning 63-55. Junior Treyvon Andres was the leading scorer with 21 points and five rebounds.
The following day, the boys played the Legend Titans for the 2nd year in a row. After falling behind early, the come back wasn’t strong enough, and the Spartans ended up losing with a score of 53-48. The leading scorer was Andres again, with 15 points and nine rebounds. The loss hurt the Spartans chances of winning the tournament, but they still had the chance to improve on their play.
On Saturday, December 22nd, the Spartans played their final game in group play, beating Pine Creek High School 68-46. Senior Eric Andres was the leading scorer with 15 points and five rebounds. The win put the Spartans into the 3rd place game against the Cherry Creek Bruins. Later that night the boys pulled off the big win against the Bruins 74-71. Eric led all scoring with 21 points and secured the 3rd place for the Spartans, with Highlands Ranch coming in first place. In the tournament, the hoop squad went 3-1 with a big win against a top 5A team in Cherry Creek. For the season the Spartans stand at 8-2 with a major matchup against Highlands Ranch High School on Wednesday, January 8th at TJ at 7 p.m.
