With two games left in the season, TJ soccer took on John F. Kennedy High School on Tuesday, the 19th of October at All City Field, and Kent Denver High School on Thursday, the 21st right here at TJ. Unfortunately, the boys just couldn’t pull up a win against either team, losing to JFK 2-1, and 1-0 against Kent.

On Tuesday, the Spartans battled hard against JFK, keeping up the intensity throughout the entire first half, as no goals were scored on them. Sadly, the guys didn’t have the same intensity going into the second half, allowing JFK to score two goals on them. However, the Spartans were not ready to be shut out, and Senior Freddy Contreras scored a lone goal for TJ late in the second half. “Loosing to JFK was tough; we were all really ready to show them what we’re made of this year, and beat them,” said Contreras.

With damper spirits from the loss against JFK, the guys stepped on their home field on Thursday to play one last game against Kent Denver.

The Spartans worked hard, and the game remained at 0-0 throughout both the first and second half. “We had trouble getting our offense going a lot of the time. If we had just slowed down and communicated a little better, we definitely could have had that game,” said Senior Nick Becker.

Seeming to become quite the pattern in their season, the Spartans went into overtime, unfortunately giving up a goal to Kent. “It was a tough season. We had so many great games, and a lot of opportunities, we just had trouble grasping them, and taking them for the win. I’m extremely hopeful for next season though. We learn from each season we play,” said Head Coach Jon Poole.

Although the Spartans didn’t have the opportunity to make it to the playoffs, the guys had a great season. “In previous years, we’ve been crushed by East, this year we lost by only one point. That shows a lot, and I think we’ve really improved from previous seasons,” said Becker. The guys will only continue to get better, and anticipation for next season is already building!
