Homecoming week is always full of excitement and fun, and this year will be better than ever.

It’s that time again, TJ! The Homecoming dance is approaching and the days that lead up to it are just as exciting as the dance itself. Spirit Week is an exciting tradition that students look forward to every year. This year, admin and Leadership have created a thrilling and fun-packed week that will allow students to roll the dice on a good time.

The theme of the Homecoming dance this year is “A Night in Vegas,” and all of the spirit days are themed accordingly. Spirit week starts on Monday, September 15th, with Millionaire Monday. Students are encouraged to dress up lavishly and luxuriously. Tuesday’s theme is Day-After-Day, so students should appear very disoriented, like they just had the time of their lives the night before. For Wild West Wednesday, students should dress as western as possible, channeling their inner cowboy or cowgirl. Thursday is Roulette Day, where students dress up wearing polkadots and/or the colors black, red, and green. Finally, Friday is TJ day! Students should wear all of their TJ gear in order to show some TJ pride. Everybody should do their very best to contribute to every day of the week to ensure a thrilling week.

The Homecoming football game will be that Friday night, September 19th, and the stands will hopefully be packed with Spartans who can give the players the spirit they need to secure a win. During halftime, Homecoming court will be announced. Those students are nominated by the staff of TJ. Students will then be able to vote for the King and Queen, who will be announced at the Homecoming dance the following day.

The dance will take place in TJ’s gym from 8-11 p.m. In the past, Kyler Jackson played music for the dance, but due to his unavailability this year, there will be a brand new DJ. At the entrance, there will be security officers checking bags to ensure safety to all students and staff at the dance. Towards the end of the night, the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced. Afterwards, people will have the chance to congratulate the royalty before they leave to enjoy the rest of their night.

Leadership students have been working hard for the past three weeks in order to give TJ the perfect Homecoming. They have been doing their very best to choose the right days that will generate the most participation possible from everyone. Leadership went through a lot of trial and error to determine the theme of each day. “I just think it makes it so much more special and unique going to school when there’s something fun that is based around that week,” said senior Abigail Sanchez. Counselor Erin Thompson also hopes that the staff will get more involved in order to get the students more excited about the week and the activities that accompany each day.

As the exciting week approaches, anticipation for the dance grows with it. The Homecoming dance is a once-a-year experience that is always more fun if large numbers of people attend. Sanchez hopes that everyone can go to the compelling event so they can all truly know that “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”
