Monday afternoon, the Lady Spartans of TJ met up with the Angels of East in the match-up of the season.  While the two teams battled hard, East came out with the victory, winning 4-0.

The game started off on an East offensive surge as the Angels put four in the net early on.  Goals came from Lexie Williams, Lillie Toaspern, and Katie Buss, who had two of her own.  Although going down early, the Spartans never gave up as defense became their main priority.  The Angels were held to few shots in the second half, as TJ found their stride in the backfield.  Yet a suffocating East defense kept the Lady Spartans from getting many opportunities on offense.

This most recent match up with the Angels was statistically the best game played against East by the Spartans in three years, as the powerhouse Angels teams of the past have consistently dominated their conference opponents.  The young TJ team held their ground and kept up the intensity as the girls showed they could compete with a high-caliber team such as East.

While the game showed up in the paper as a loss, the Lady Spartans took some much needed confidence out of a well played second half.  “If we come out with that intensity and determination, I’m absolutely confident we could annihilate any competition in our way,” said Senior Captain Demi Sullivan.

This loss gives the Lady Spartans a record of 4-3-1 at this turning point in the season.  The girls’ look to redeem themselves today, April 15, verse Falcon, at Falcon High School, at 4 p.m.
