Down Go the Warriors

TJ Girls’ soccer team defeats Montbello with a score of 4-0.

At 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012, the Thomas Jefferson girls’ soccer team played against the Montbello Warriors at All City Stadium, and came away victorious.

“The Montbello game helped us because we needed to work on our touch before we played against Arvada West on Friday,” said Junior Rachel Uyemura.  The girls had many opportunities to score, and finally got a goal by Junior Braelah McGinnis towards the end of the first half.  The Spartans went into half time with a score of 1-0, but powered into the second half with more intensity.  Instantly, McGinnis scored another goal ten minutes into the half.  She later scored her third goal, making it a hat trick, with an assist by Senior Belen Gomez.  The last goal was yet again scored by McGinnis off of a corner kick from Freshman Quinn Roder.

With three minutes left in the game, Montbello fouled Senior Mallory Lopez just outside of the 18-yard box.  The foul gave the girls hope to score one more goal, but time ran out and they were left with the final winning score of 4-0.  “Overall, we played a good game,” said Uyemura.

Their next game is on Friday, April 20, 2012 against Arvada West.  The girls have a home field advantage with the game being at TJ, at 4:00 p.m.  Make sure to go show your support for the Lady Spartans.
