On Thursday, May 2nd, the girls’ soccer team defeated Kennedy High School in a home conference game.

The day before, their game against South got cancelled and the girls went into their game against Kennedy ready to play.  During the first half, the Lady Spartans gained the lead, scoring one goal in the first half by Junior Elina Laine.  TJ picked it up during the second half, scoring three goals, all by Sophomore Kelly Cordes.

The weeks before, after four games were cancelled and two and a half weeks of not being able to play on the turf, the girls soccer game is back in action, winning three of their past four games.

On April 29th, the Spartans headed into Viking territory where they played North High School. It was a close game, the final score being 4-3, with the TJ coming out on top.  The four goals were scored by Senior Braelah McGinnis, Sophomore Kelly Cordes, and Junior Elina Laine.  McGinnis and Cordes each scored one while Laine scored two.

The Friday before, April 26th, the Spartans hosted the West Cowboys, defeating them 4-1.  TJ was able to get in two goals in the first half and two goals in the second half.  Laine and Cordes scored one goal each, and Sophomore Quinn Roder scored two goals.

The day before, the girls had a rough game against the East Angels.  The ladies played hard but couldn’t pull off the win over their long time rivals.  The girls came out strong, only allowing in one goal during the first half.  In the second half they kept up their intensity, but the Angels were able to get ahead, scoring their first goal in the second half off of a penalty kick.  The final score of the game was 5-0.

On the 26th, the Spartans played Montbello, and came out with an easy victory of 6-0.  Sophomore Marinah McGinnis score one goal along with her sister, Braelah, and Roder.  Cordes was able to score three goals.

The regular season is now over for the girls, ending with nine wins, three losses, and only one tie, the best record the girls’ soccer team has had since about 2007, according to Assistant Coach Jon Poole.  On Tuesday, May 7th, the girls will go into the first round of the playoffs with the 20th seed.  They will be facing Battle Mountain, who is in the 13th seed, in an away game at 3:00pm.
