Ending With Smiles

The boys’ swim team went into the city meet with a win over Englewood and placed second overall in the city meet.

With the State Swim Meet just a few days away, the boys’ swim team will go in with a win and third place at the City Swim Meet.

On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, the boys went to Englewood to compete in their last meet before the big meets of their season, coming out with a victorious score of 138-45.  The Spartans came in first place for all of their events except for the 500 Freestyle event.  “We competed very well and that meet gave us a good confidence booster for the city league meet,” said Junior Marcus Allen.

Just a couple weeks later, the boys were ready for the City League Meet on Friday, May 11^th and Saturday, May 12^th.  The boys came in third place behind East, who came in first, and George Washington, who came in second.  “It was a close meet until diving where East and GW pulled ahead of us,” explained Allen, who said that they had fun as a team at the meet.  Although they didn’t come in first, all of their Relay teams made state.  In addition, Junior Jackson Epstein qualified for the state meet in all four of the events in which he swam.

The State Meet was held Friday, May 18^th, and Saturday, May 19^th.  Each swimmer swam their best times of the year.  “We had some injuries but we swam through them,” said Allen.  “We had fun and it was a great way to end our season as a team.”
